Mechano-chemically activated fly-ash and sisal fiber reinforced PP hybrid composite with enhanced mechanical properties

This study explores the hybridizing effect of mechano-chemical activated fly-ash (FA) in polypropylene (PP) composites reinforced with sisal fibers. Activation and resistance against agglomeration FA has been achieved by modifying it 2, 4, 6 wt.% cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (C-tab). activation C-tab particle size reduction to nano-level (< 1 µm) have appropriately a planetary ball milling same confirmed from dynamic light scattering technique. The hybrid composite containing 25 fiber 5 (6 C-tab) treated shows much improved tensile (40.12 MPa), flexural (53.27 impact strengths (0.75 kJ/m2) than that virgin PP its 30 composites. increase strength was 30.54% 48% higher neat PP. Maximum notched 0.80 kJ/m2 reported 2 C-tab. Micromechanical modelling using combination rule mixture inverse separately Halpin–Tsai predicted value close experimental Young’s modulus.
